Eligibility
AIIS Nine-Month Language Program, with an application deadline in January, offers numerous awards of $10200 each.Description
The AIIS Nine-Month Language Program is open to students at institutions of higher education in the U.S. and Bachelor Degree holders who are pursuing an academic or government service career. Teachers in area studies are also eligible. Applicants for other Indian languages not listed may be considered. Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply; AIIS will make all reasonable efforts to accommodate them. The program for 2024-2025 will begin in September 2024. This is an intensive language program that provides four hours of classroom instruction five days a week. Participants must take part in all program events, such as attending films, plays, and other cultural activities. This is not a research program; participants are expected to devote all their energies to activities that will increase their competence in all areas of language skills - speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Participants will have ample opportunity to study their research-related materials in the target language during personal tutorials. Applicants will also need to ensure that two letters of reference are submitted on their behalf. There are two types of reference letter forms. One is for a language reference which should be submitted by someone who has instructed you in a language course. The other reference form is a general reference. If an applicant has never studied any language at the post-secondary level, they may have two general references submitted for them. Please visit the award's website for more information.
