Description

The Albert M. Lappin Scholarship will be awarded to assist financially, in the education of needy and worthy children of American Legion Members and/or such children of American Legion Auxiliary members of the Department of Kansas. Applicants must be an average or better student scholastically. Only high school seniors, college level freshmen or sophomores who are enrolled or intend to enroll in an approved junior college, college, university or trade school located in the state of Kansas will be considered. Applicants must be the son or daughter of a veteran; the parent(s) must have been a member of The Kansas American Legion and/or Kansas American Legion Auxiliary for the past three consecutive years. Applicants may be the son or daughter of a deceased member whose membership was paid up in The American Legion and/or Auxiliary in the year of death. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a teacher. The latest 1040 income statement of the applicant's supporting parent(s) is also required. Applicants must submit their parent's papers, showing date of entry and release from active duty. DD 214's are acceptable.
