Albert M. Lappin Scholarship, with an application deadline in February, offers numerous awards of $1000 each. Military service requirements apply. Restricted to those with financial need.

Description

The Albert M. Lappin Scholarship will be awarded to financially assist the education of needy and worthy children of American Legion Members and/or such children of American Legion Auxiliary members of the Department of Kansas. The applicant must be an average or better student scholastically. Only high school seniors, college level freshmen or sophomores who are enrolled or intend to enroll in an approved junior college, college, university or trade school will be considered. The applicant must be the son or daughter of a veteran; the parent(s) must have been a member of The Kansas American Legion and/or Kansas American Legion Auxiliary for the past three consecutive years. The applicant may be the son or daughter of a deceased member whose membership was paid up in The American Legion and/or Auxiliary in the year of death. The applicant's major field of study will be a factor in the final selection. Applicants must indicate their major field of study. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation, only one must be from a teacher. The latest 1040 income statement of supporting parent(s) is also required.
