Description

The IAGLR Scholarship is awarded annually to promising Ph.D. students whose dissertation research is likely to make a significant contribution to the understanding of large lakes. Funded by IAGLR, the scholarship is intended to promote academic excellence by encouraging young scientists to undertake graduate research in Great Lakes ecosystem health and to enter the field of Great Lakes science. Applicants must be a current IAGLR member. They must not have received the award previously. Applicants must also not be a current member of the IAGLR Board of Directors or part of a current board member's immediate family (parents, children, spouse, siblings). In addition to their name, contact information, IAGLR member status, affiliation, and education, applicants must be prepared to submit the following: brief title and extended abstract of dissertation research; statement of relevance of the project understanding large lakes; current curriculum vitae; transcripts; and name, affiliation, and email of person providing the letter of endorsement. The letter of endorsement must be from a supervising professor, and must be sent directly to IAGLR via email with the student's and award name in the subject line. The letter should indicate the name, address, e-mail, and telephone number of the major professor; statement of the student's stage of progress and anticipated time to completion of degree; and endorsement of student's academic ability, aptitude, and eligibility. Applications will be evaluated based on academic excellence, scientific merit, presentation, originality, and contribution to the understanding of large lakes. Please visit the scholarship's website for more information.
