Eligibility
Ken Yamase Sportsmanship Scholarship Fund, with an application deadline in February, offers numerous awards that vary in amount. Location restrictions exist. Restricted to those with financial need.Description
The Ken Yamase Sportsmanship Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of Ken Yamase and perpetuate his legacy of fair play, integrity, respect and sportsmanship. The donor requires students to attend an accredited, two- or four-year, not-for-profit institution within the US (including US territories). The donor also requires students to be senior athletes at Waiakea High School who participated in BIIF (Big Island Interscholastic Federation) sport(s). If there are no applicants who meet this criteria, then the applicant may be a senior athlete from any other public high school except for charter schools, that is part of the BIIF. Applicants must demonstrate good sportsmanship throughout their BIIF participation. Applicants must also submit two letters of recommendation; one letter of recommendation from the Athletic Director or coach and one from a high school teacher or counselor. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Hawai'i Community Foundation for more information.
