Eligibility

LAF Honor Scholarship in Memory of Joe Lalli, FASLA, with an application deadline in February, offers 3 awards of $20000 each. Restricted to those with financial need.

Description

This LAF Honor Scholarship was established in memory of Joseph J. Lalli, FASLA (1943-2014) and his 46-year career as a landscape architect, artist, philanthropist, mentor, and teacher. Joe experienced great value in his master's degree and wanted to help make the opportunity for graduate education accessible to others. Eligible applicants are landscape architecture students currently enrolled in an LAAB- or LAAC-accredited master's degree program (post-baccalaureate or non-baccalaureate) at a university in the U.S. or Canada. Applicants should show commitment to some of the areas that Joe Lalli dedicated himself to, including drawing, artistic pursuits, the importance of travel, and giving back in service to one's community and profession. Candidates will be evaluated based on their demonstrated design ability, leadership, character/integrity, and service to others and to the landscape architecture profession. Financial need will also be considered. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, which should specifically address the candidate's exemplary qualities and provide an example of a situation in which the candidate demonstrated character and integrity. Applicants must also submit work samples for 3-6 projects from academic or internship work in one PDF document. Each should include explanatory text describing the project. If it was a group project, applicants must state this and describe their role. If any part of the work was generated by artificial intelligence (AI), clearly identify this and explain the role AI played. Applicants must submit a bio for the LAF Website. They must describe their background, current educational pursuits, future plans, and any other personal interests or activities. Applicants must also submit a resume or CV in PDF format. It should include the applicant's education, professional experience, extra-curricular activities, and honors and awards. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Landscape Architecture Foundation for more information.
