Eligibility

Sissel and Roger Espeland Memorial Scholarship, with an application deadline in January, offers numerous awards of $4000 each. Restricted to those with financial need.

Description

The Sissel and Roger Espeland Memorial Scholarship awards up to $4,000 to support U.S. citizens aged 17 to 26 pursuing technical, vocational, or undergraduate study in the United States. Applicants must be current members of Sons of Norway or the children or grandchildren of members with at least one year of active membership prior to applying. The scholarship is open to all fields of study and does not require prior college credit or proof of enrollment at the time of application. Selection is based on academic potential, financial need, and a personal essay that addresses educational goals, community involvement, and alignment with the Foundation's core values. Required materials include a short autobiography, transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and documentation of educational expenses. The award is granted for one academic year and does not cover costs from previous terms such as room, board, or travel.
