Description

The Smith-Hutson Freshman Scholarship is available to students who otherwise may not have a chance to earn a baccalaureate degree. This program is targeted toward individuals who have demonstrated Academic Achievement, Leadership Potential, and may have financial limitations preventing access to higher education. The Smith-Hutson Scholarship Program provides educational opportunities for Texas high school graduates pursuing a baccalaureate degree from Sam Houston State University. This award is funded for 8 semesters, or until the student earns their baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first. High school graduates with dual or AP credits are still eligible for this scholarship regardless of college credits earned while in high school. Applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from an English, Mathematics, or Science teacher who taught them in the last year. They must also submit a second letter of recommendation from another educator (teacher, counselor, coach, principal, etc.).
