Eligibility

Susan Miszkowicz September 11 Memorial Scholarship, with an application deadline in March, offers one award in the amount of $1750.

Description

Susan was the only SWE member to die in the September 11 tragedy at the World Trade Center. Susan was active in several other organizations such as American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). She served SWE and ASME in many capacities, and was also an active volunteer with a number of other organizations, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and several animal rescue groups. The Susan Miszkowicz September 11 Memorial Scholarship was funded in 2002 by the New York Section and friends in SWE. It honors all the victims. SWE scholarships support students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in engineering, engineering technology, and fields related to engineering. Applicants must be studying at an ABET-accredited program in engineering, technology or computing in the upcoming academic year. Students who attend an ABET-accredited community college program are also eligible to apply. A SWE membership is not required to apply. However, becoming a SWE member may qualify applicants for additional scholarships and add additional points to the applicant's application review score. The scholarship reviewers focus on extracurricular activities, work history, volunteerism, and interest and involvement in STEM. Applicants must submit one reference, either from someone who can speak to the applicant's academic work, such as a teacher, or someone who knows the applicant well and can speak to their character, such as a coach or supervisor. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Society of Women Engineers for more information.
