Perfect Plants is a family owned nursery operating on the same property and principals that were established in 1980 with the purchase of the family farm. As second-generation growers, we are proud of our industry and know how important it is to cultivate further interest and education in horticulture. Applicants must be an incoming freshman, sophomore, junior or senior enrolled into a course of study leading to a career in the horticultural industry. Two letters of recommendation from two of the following choices must be submitted: a member of the faculty of your school or college; a professional member of the horticultural field; a community leader; or an employer or supervisor. The Baldur Stefansson Scholarship, in honour of Dr. Stefansson's work in the development of Canola, is to be awarded to a student studying Plant Science, to be chosen by faculty at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Agriculture. The Monroe Scheflo Memorial Scholarship was established in 1985 by the U.S. Durum Growers Association in memory of Monroe Scheflo, the Association's President from 1982 to 1984 when he lost his battle with cancer at the age of 43. Monroe Scheflo was raised in Newburg, ND and graduated from high school there. Monroe was an outspoken champion of Durum research, promotion, and export development. The U.S. Durum Growers Association Scholarship fund was established in 2014 to provide financial assistance to students from durum-producing states attending college full-time and pursuing a degree in agriculture. For Monroe Scheflo Memorial Scholarship, preference will be given to students from North Dakota attending college full-time and pursuing a degree in agriculture. For U.S. Durum Growers Association Scholarship, preference will be given to students from durum producing states attending college full-time and pursuing a degree in agriculture. CME Beef Industry Scholarship

The Beef Industry Scholarship was introduced in 1989 through the Live Cattle Futures Contract of the CME Group. The National Cattlemen's Foundation and CME Group are committed to the future of the cattle industry and continue to recognize and support outstanding youth in the beef community. The tradition remains strong today, each year a total of ten scholarships are awarded to students pursuing careers in the beef industry. Fields of study may include: education, communications, production, research or any other area involved with the beef industry. The purpose of this program is to identify and encourage talented and thoughtful students who will emerge as industry leaders. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior or an undergraduate student who will be enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year. The Ruth E. & Leon E. Pearson Memorial Scholarship

The Ruth E. and Leon E. Pearson Memorial Scholarship Fund aims to recognize superior horticultural and scholastic performance. Applicants must have completed two semesters of full-time college level study of horticulture, must be enrolled in a horticulture related major at the Stockbridge School at UMass or NHTI - Concord's Community College, and must be under 28 on December 31 of the year applying for the scholarship. Two letters of recommendation should be included with the application. One needs to be from a college horticulture instructor and one from a horticulture employer or industry contact. Paul Ecke, Jr. Scholarship

This scholarship honors the late Paul Ecke, Jr. of Encinitas, Calif., who made indispensable contributions to the advancement of the global floriculture industry. Each year, one student will receive a scholarship for two consecutive years, providing that they continue to meet requirements for this duration and submit an annual update. Three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the applicant's floriculture-related advisor, are required. Applicants must also submit a short video (up to three minutes) of themselves. In this video, applicants must communicate to the selection committee why they are the best candidate for this scholarship. They must describe or show their current or proposed research project. What are agriculture scholarships?
Agriculture scholarships are financial aid for college created specifically for agriculture students. Scholarships for agriculture majors can help students access higher education opportunities that otherwise may be out of reach because of financial reasons. What types of agriculture scholarships are available?
Need-based scholarships
These are scholarships for students who have demonstrated a financial need. There’s no universal number or set income level that tells you if you qualify. How each scholarship defines what financial need means varies. The federal government as well as specific organizations, corporations, and colleges/universities/schools offer need-based scholarships.
Merit scholarships
Merit scholarships are for students who have shown high academic, athletic, or extracurricular achievement over their high school careers. Not all schools/colleges offer merit-aid—highly selective schools typically don’t. The process for applying for merit scholarships varies. For merit scholarships offered through colleges and universities, you generally don’t have to do anything other than complete the application to the school itself. For some schools, you need to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) to be eligible.
Career-specific grants or scholarships
These are awarded to students who know they want a career in a specific industry. Maybe they know they want to be a teacher, a nurse, or an engineer. To be eligible for grants, students must submit the FAFSA®. To find career-specific scholarships, try searching for your major and “association.”
Community or nonprofit scholarships
Nonprofit and community organizations often receive funding from donors to create scholarship programs for students who need them.
Tips for successful scholarship applications
- Pull together everything you need for the application including transcripts, so you can submit a complete scholarship application.
- You may need a recommendation letter or letters for a scholarship. Ask a teacher, employer, or someone else who knows you to write one for you—and be sure to give them enough time to do it.
- If you’re writing a scholarship essay, follow the prompt, answer the essay question completely, and write from your experience. A few well-written essays that you can reuse for different scholarship applications can really pay off.
- Highlight your strengths and achievements in your application.
- Talk about your financial need and what you would use the scholarship money for if you won. How would it help?
- Have to interview for a scholarship? Dress to impress in a professional outfit. And do your research! Look into how/why the scholarship was created. Try to bring up why it’s meaningful to you. Also, don’t forget to send a thank-you note afterwards.
- Keep track of all the deadlines for the scholarships you’re applying to. If you miss one, they may not extend the due date.
- Apply for scholarships year after year, all through college. As you continue your studies, gain more experience, and try new extracurricular activities in college, you might be eligible for more scholarships you weren’t originally qualified for.
