Description

Throughout their many years of volunteerism focused on mentoring and tutoring refugee and immigrant families, Larry and Sue Yarger have met many parents who have endured significant hardships and challenges to provide their children opportunities not available in their home countries. The Yarger's established The Achievement Scholarship for Refugees and Immigrants in Wake County to provide financial awards for refugee and immigrant high school graduates to continue their education in a post-secondary setting. This opportunity is available to students planning to pursue a degree at an accredited public, private, or technical college or university, including both 2-year and 4-year institutions. The scholarship may be used towards any need listed under the school's total cost of attendance. Payments are made annually for up to 4 years. Applicants must be first-generation U.S. citizens, refugees, or immigrants who have completed at least one academic year at a high school in Wake County. They must be high school seniors at the time of the application. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Triangle Community Foundation for more information.
