Carol Stephens SWE Region F Scholarship, with an application deadline in March, offers one award in the amount of $1500. Restricted to those with financial need.

Description

Carol was a graduate of Niles High School, Class of 1986. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Memphis. Carol joined the Norwich University faculty in 1996 as a professor of mechanical engineering. She was a passionate teacher and was regarded by her students as the most challenging and liked professor. Carol was an active SWE member of the Region F North Country Section. The scholarship was initially endowed in 2013 by funds from SWE New England Region F in recognition of Carol's promotion of engineering as a career for young women. This scholarship is available to students in any engineering major. First choice is for the applicant to attend a college or university within the Region F boundaries. Second choice would be for the applicant's home address to be within the Region F boundaries. U.S. citizenship and SWE membership are also preferred. Students with financial need is also preferred. SWE scholarships support students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in engineering, engineering technology, and fields related to engineering. Applicants must be studying at an ABET-accredited program in engineering, technology or computing in the upcoming academic year. Students who attend an ABET-accredited community college program are also eligible to apply. The scholarship reviewers focus on extracurricular activities, work history, volunteerism, and interest and involvement in STEM. Applicants must submit one reference, either from someone who can speak to the applicant's academic work, such as a teacher, or someone who knows the applicant well and can speak to their character, such as a coach or supervisor.
