Description

The Edward Yoshiharu Sakuma & Kay Kubo Sakuma Early Childhood Education Scholarship was established in 2018 to increase the number of qualified and culturally sensitive public school teachers on the Leeward coast of Oahu by providing scholarships to undergraduate students. Applicants must pursue an Associate of Arts in Teaching at Leeward Community College; or be a Leeward Community College transfer pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree in Early Childhood Education at University of Hawai'i-West O'ahu. Applicants must also be a graduate of a public high school or equivalent in the State of Hawai'i. High school seniors must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicants must be committed to teaching in the State of Hawai'i public school system; have demonstrated volunteer and extracurricular activities with leadership roles; and have excellent character and leadership skills.
