Ian Doane Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund, with an application deadline in February, offers numerous awards that vary in amount. Location restrictions exist. Restricted to those with financial need.

Description

Ian Doane Smith was raised on Maui, was a star HYSO player and a four year all star soccer player at Maui High School. He was also an accomplished Maui big wave surfer and a dedicated youth soccer coach. Ian loved Maui and its young people and following his death in 2004, his family proudly established the Ian Doane Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor his memory and excellence in the two sports Ian loved: surfing and soccer. The Hawai'i Community Foundation requires applicants to be a resident of the State of Hawaii, meanwhile, the donor requires applicants to be a resident of Maui Island. Preference is for recipients who were awarded in the immediate prior year if such recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements and is in good academic standing. The following preferences will also be given in the following order of priority shall aid in the selection of recipients should the need arise: (1) Students who are active participants in any of the following club or team sports: soccer, surfing, or paddling. (2) Students attending the University of Hawaii, Maui College. (3) Renewal applicants. The scholarship may be renewed for up to four years.
