Description

Ian Doane Smith was raised on Maui, was a star HYSO player and a four year all star soccer player at Maui High School. He was also an accomplished Maui big wave surfer and a dedicated youth soccer coach. Ian loved Maui and its young people and following his death in 2004, his family proudly established this memorial scholarship fund to honor his memory and excellence in the two sports Ian loved: surfing and soccer. The Ian Doane Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund is available to students who are residents of Maui Island. Applicants must be an undergraduate degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university. Preference is for recipients who were awarded in the immediate prior year. Preference will be given in the following order of priority, which shall aid in the selection of recipients should the need arise: students who are active participants in any of the following club or team sports: soccer, surfing, or paddling; students attending the University of Hawaii, Maui College; and renewal applicants. The scholarship may be renewed for up to four years. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Hawai'i Community Foundation for more information.
