Eligibility

IRSS Mary Amdur Student Award, with an application deadline in December, offers numerous awards of $500 each.

Description

The IRSS Mary Amdur Student Award will be awarded to the student whose abstract best addresses the environmental health issues that were the focus of Dr. Mary Amdur's career. Dr. Amdur was a pioneer in air pollution toxicology, who overcame gender, political, and scientific barriers to proclaim the potential for interactions between specific air pollutants. The application for the Mary Amdur Student Award should consist of one PDF document that contains the following items: copy of pending abstract for platform or poster presentation for presentation at the SOT Annual Meeting; current curriculum vitae for the student; statement from the applicant; a letter of support from the student advisor or major professor, which should highlight the applicant's contributions to the research being presented, the applicant's overall scientific achievement and contribution to respiratory/inhalation toxicology, a description of their leadership and service activities, and details on the applicant's collaborative efforts and initiative; and a headshot. Applicants for the Mary Amdur Award must be members of the Inhalation and Respiratory Specialty Section. In a given year, students can only apply to either the Mary Amdur Award or the Student Award, but not both. Each sponsor can only nominate one student for each award category. Please visit the award's website or contact the Society of Toxicology for more information.
