Description

The International Women's Fishing Association Scholarship Trust grants research scholarships to graduate students who are committed to studies of the chemical, physical, and biological processes of marine science with emphasis on conservation and protection of the marine environment. Both male and female students can apply. The candidates for a scholarship must be matriculated at a recognized university in the United States or its territorial possessions and must be pursuing a course of study leading to a graduate degree in one of the Marine Sciences. Only candidates approved as proper recipients for scholarship aid by the faculty of the university he or she is attending, with research projects developed, will be considered. The personal qualifications considered will include, but not be limited to, evidence of general aptitude and ability in the area of study, the character of the candidate, and her/his previous academic accomplishments. The Trustees will also consider the candidate's relative need as it relates to the stated research project when compared with that of other candidates. Applicants must submit a Letter of Good Standing from the Registrar's Office of the university in which they are enrolled. Applicants must also provide a list of the name, email address, and position of three individuals familiar with their training and academic qualifications whom the applicants have asked to write recommendations on their behalf. These should include: (a) the applicant's graduate research advisor; (b) another advisor, professor, or school official; (c) someone well acquainted with the applicant personally. The three letters of recommendation should include character, personality, and ability testimonials, as well as a description of the applicant's scholastic and extracurricular activities including their current GPA. Please visit the scholarship's website for more information.
