Description

The Jay Spence Memorial Scholarship was established by family and friends to honor the memory of James "Jay" Edmund Spence. He attended the public schools of Chatham County and was a student at Jordan-Matthews High School. It is the wish of the family that students will be assisted in their educational pursuits, individual lives will be touched and enriched, and recipients will be inspired to make a difference in the lives of others because Jay lived. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors and alumni from Jordan-Matthews High School and Chatham Charter High School in Siler City, North Carolina, and plan to continue an undergraduate or graduate education at an accredited public, private, or community college. Students should identify as Christian, exhibit strong character through a positive attitude, and have a passion for making a difference in the lives of others. Recipients will be selected based on their character, potential for success, and level of passion. The scholarship may be used towards any need listed under the school's total cost of attendance. Payments are made annually for up to four years. Applicants must be residents of Siler City, NC. There are no restrictions on area of study or geographic location of the college or university the student plans to attend. The scholarship may not be used at proprietary educational institutions. This scholarship is available to students planning to attend community college prior to transferring to a four-year institution. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Triangle Community Foundation for more information.
