Eligibility

Joseph Nystrom Working Student Scholarship, with an application deadline in March, offers numerous awards of $16000 each. Location restrictions exist. Restricted to those with financial need.

Description

In 2017, Joseph Nystrom was working his way through college when his life was cut short by a drunk driver. This scholarship is intended to honor his memory by assisting working students as they return to college or remain enrolled in post-secondary education until graduation. The family's purpose in creating the scholarship is to provide funding for adult students who want to finish their college degrees. The scholarship may be used towards any need listed under the school's total cost of attendance. Payments are made annually for up to two years. This scholarship is restricted to students working at least part-time and who have been enrolled in a degree program for at least two semesters in the past three years. Applicants must have a household income within the 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or below. Preference will be given to students who have overcome barriers to pursuing post-secondary education, including but not limited to medical barriers. Only students pursuing undergraduate degrees will be eligible. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Triangle Community Foundation for more information.
