Laura W. Bush Scholarship, with an application deadline in March, offers 5 awards of $4000 each. Restricted to those with financial need.

Description

The Laura W. Bush Scholarship will be awarded to a child or stepchild of a current or former crew member of USS TEXAS (SSN 775) who either is a Plankowner (crewmember on September 11, 2006); or served a minimum of 2 years onboard USS TEXAS (following commissioning) and has served in the Submarine Force a minimum of 6 years. Scholarships may be awarded in an academic year for post-secondary education at the undergraduate level, including vocational training programs. Dependent children applicants must be a high school senior or be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a college or an accredited vocational or technical institute, who is working toward their first Associate's or Bachelor's degree. Scholars attending any Military Service Academy are not eligible for the Dolphin Scholarship. All scholars are selected on the basis of academic proficiency as well as commitment and excellence in school and community activities. Although not a part of the actual selection process, financial need is considered once all financial aid assistance for an applicant has been determined.
