Eligibility

Learning Beyond Borders: A Ling Scholarship, with an application deadline in December, offers numerous awards of $1000 each.

Description

The Learning Beyond Borders: A Ling Scholarship will be awarded to help students fund their study abroad experience. No essay required, just a short video. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a 4-year university, or a 1-2 year Master's program. High school students are also eligible. Applicants must be accepted into a study abroad or exchange program for any semester prior to or including Spring 2026 (before June 2026). The scholarship is open to all nationalities, GPAs, majors, and minors. Applicants must be planning to study abroad in any country (non-English-speaking countries preferred, but not required). This scholarship is available for students pursuing language learning scholarships, foreign language scholarships, or scholarships for study abroad programs. Applicants must submit a video essay. Remember that the personal statement should not only answer the prompts, but should showcase the applicant's personality. Applicants must introduce themselves in the video and talk about the study abroad or exchange program they've joined or been accepted into and the languages they speak. Then, applicants must answer the main question: "What cultural or language barrier do you think you might face while studying abroad, and how are you preparing for it?" Applicants must then choose and answer one of the prompts available on the scholarship's website. Please visit the scholarship's website for more information about the scholarship and the submission requirements for the video.
