Eligibility

Markowski-Leach Scholarships, with an application deadline in April, offers numerous awards that vary in amount.

Description

The Markowski-Leach Scholarship is awarded annually to LGBTQ+ post-secondary students who will be enrolled in a program that leads to a degree or a teaching credential at a select California university. Eligible universities include San Francisco State University; Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley, University of California, San Francisco; UC Law San Francisco; University of San Francisco; or California Institute of Integral Studies. Students applying as incoming, first year students, and those who are transferring into one of these Universities, are encouraged to apply, even if their application has not yet been accepted. All undergraduate recipients must have earned a minimum GPA of 2.5 in all prior college level coursework. High school students applying for admission will be considered eligible upon admission to an affiliated university. Graduate recipients must be eligible to enroll in a graduate program at their campus. The annual award can be renewed for a second year automatically and then re-application is necessary. Successful applicants will demonstrate a high level of commitment and persistence to achieving a significant positive goal in their academics, employment, committee work, or volunteerism, with a clear trajectory toward a positive result. This goal does not need to be LGBT-focused (for example, it can be a goal of success in study, research, or work in engineering). Please visit the scholarship's website for more information.
