Description

The Mathematics Graduate Course Work Scholarship for Grades 6-8 Teachers provides financial support for improving teachers' understanding of mathematics by completing graduate coursework in mathematics or mathematics education. Applicants must be currently teaching at the grades 6-8 level. They must have taught school mathematics for at least three years and intend to remain in teaching. Past recipients of this grant are not eligible to reapply. The applicant must be a current (on the day of the application) Essential or Premium member of NCTM. Primary emphasis is placed on appropriate mathematics content courses. Mathematics education courses also qualify if a suitable rationale is provided by the applicant. The proposal must address the following: rationale for the coursework, anticipated instructional improvements, and expected impact on student learning outcomes. Project activities are to be completed between June 1 and May 31. Applicants must submit a letter of support from their principal that confirms the teaching status of the applicant and indicates strong support for the proposal and the applicant's ability to accomplish it.
