Eligibility

Omi and Opi's Scholarship, with an application deadline in March, offers 10 awards of $25000 each. Restricted to those with financial need.

Description

The Omi and Opi's Scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Claus and Helga Helbing and to empower high-potential students from underserved communities to pursue their educational dreams. The scholarship is open to students pursuing undergraduate, community college, trade, certificate, or select graduate programs at any accredited institution; including public, private and religiously affiliated colleges, universities, or institutions. Applicants must demonstrate significant financial need, which may include limited family income or extenuating circumstances such as homelessness, foster care, or a lack of parental support. Financial need is evaluated holistically. Applicants must also come from an underrepresented or underserved background. Priority may be given to first-generation students, minority applicants, those raised without parents, foster youth, or residents of low-income zip codes. The sponsor is looking for resilience, talent, initiative, and growth, evaluating the whole person rather than requiring straight A's. DACA students are fully eligible. Current students may apply if they have at least one year remaining in their program and still demonstrate need. Please visit the scholarship's website for more information.
