Paul S. Kleidman Memorial Scholarship, with an application deadline in March, offers one award in the amount of $1000. Restricted to those with financial need.

Description

In 2000, Paul Kleidman, the father of three children who were 15, 13 and 8, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He underwent extensive surgery chemotherapy and radiation treatments. For the next six years Mr. Kleidman continued to undergo chemotherapy and radiation all the while being a loving, caring and involved father. In recognition of the struggle that a child of a parent with cancer undergoes, the Paul S. Kleidman Memorial Scholarship is offered in Paul Kleidman's name as a tribute to his children's valiant struggle as well as the struggle faced by children similarly affected. This scholarship is open to graduating seniors of Arlington High School who will be attending a 4-year college or university and whose life has been materially affected by the serious illness of a parent. The scholarship shall be applied to tuition costs at an accredited college or university in the United States. Applicants must demonstrate ability to succeed in college and participation in sports, other extracurricular activities and/or paid employment. Financial need and grades may be considered. Applicants must submit two current letters of recommendation from teachers or guidance counselors, clergy or persons other than family members who are familiar with the applicant's skills and abilities. These letters must have been written within the last six months. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley for more information.
