Description

The Reg Huston/S.T.A.R. Scholarship for Performing Arts has been established to provide financial assistance to students who have participated in the performing arts in high school and who will continue to participate, either as the primary course of study, or as a secondary pursuit, in their higher education. The applicant must be a graduating high school senior in Monterey County and must graduate with the required GPA or higher. The applicant must have either classes or extra curricular activities in the performing arts during high school. The student may be a part-time student so long as their classes or extracurricular activities include the arts. Regardless of whether the school is a community college, university, conservatory or vocational school, there must be proof that the student is involved in the performing arts. This may be shown either by a class schedule, a performance program which includes their name or a letter from the director or employer where the student is active. The student need not major in the arts. They must, however, show that they are involved in the arts. The applicant must submit two letters of recommendation either from their school teachers, private teachers or community leaders. All applicants must submit a video example of their performance abilities. The committee shall strive to award a $4,000 scholarship award based on financial need and a $1,000 scholarship award based on merit each year. If the school is a community college, then the award is $1000 ($500 for two years). If the student enrolls at a university, conservatory or four-year institution, the award would be $4000.00. If the student transfers from a community college to a conservatory or four-year institution, the award may be transferred with a ceiling of $4000 for the total scholarship. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Community Foundation for Monterey County for more information.
