Eligibility

Systematics, Evolution, and Biodiversity (SysEB) Thomas Say Award, with an application deadline in June, offers numerous awards that vary in amount.

Description

The Systematics, Evolution, and Biodiversity (SysEB) Thomas Say Award acknowledges significant and outstanding work in the fields of insect systematics, morphology, or evolution. "Insect" is defined here to include insect allies. At least one of the authors of the nominated work must be an ESA member of the SysEB Section. The nomination is based on a single published work by the nominee (either as sole or first-author) considered to be significant and outstanding in one or more of the fields of insect systematics, morphology, or evolution. The work being nominated must have been published a minimum of two full years prior to the date of nomination and have at least 15 citations. At least one of the following two criteria must be met: (1) the lead author of the nominated work is based at a US or Canadian, or Mexican institution, or (2) the work on which the nomination is based is focused on Nearctic and/or Neotropical insects and allies. Nominations may be submitted by any member of the Society. Self-nominations are allowed, but no author may self-nominate for more than one of their works per year. Nominations packages must include the following: a letter of nomination that includes an objective assessment of the work and its impact on the field; digital (PDF) copy of the work; and assessments of the work (each including a brief description of the work and an objective assessment of its impact) by two specialists familiar with its subject matter. If the work is being self nominated by an author, it must include objective assessments from three individuals who are not authors of the work. Please visit the award's website or contact the Entomological Society of America for more information.
