Description

The Fulbright-Tocqueville Distinguished Scholar (All Disciplines) award aims to reinforce collaborative research between the United States and France in all fields of study. Grantees are invited as guest teachers and researchers at a French host university, where they have the opportunity to meet with French colleagues, to organize and participate in conferences, and to interact with French graduate and doctoral students in their area of expertise. We expect that grantees will show an interest in developing or strengthening long-lasting ties with the host institution. The Distinguished Chair recipient commits to: giving two weekly classes/seminars during the semester or a total of 60 hours per semester over a minimum of 12 weeks; giving at least three conferences per semester outside of the host institution of which at least one will be destined to a general non academic audience; contributing to student counseling and guidance in the host institution; evaluating the work of students attending proposed classes/seminars; and mentoring students and engaging with the host community. Candidates should hold the rank of associate or full professor and have at least five years of teaching experience. An invitation letter is required. The potential host institution must complete the host institution invitation form on behalf of the candidate. There are no language proficiency requirements, English is sufficient. However, feasibility of conducting the project must be demonstrated in the project statement. Teaching language is to be decided with the host institution. All applicants must submit two recommendation letters. Letters should be from those who know the applicant and the applicant's work well. Please visit the award's website or contact the Council for International Exchange of Scholars for more information.
