Eligibility

Higher Education Legislative Plan, with an application deadline in March, offers numerous awards that vary in amount. Location restrictions exist. Restricted to those with financial need.

Description

Created by the Mississippi Legislature, the Higher Education Legislative Plan program is designed to provide tuition assistance to qualified students whose financial need, as demonstrated by federal student aid eligibility, will not be met with gift aid from other sources. The program provides full tuition to qualified students for up to four years. Current graduating high school seniors and college freshman students may apply. Applicants must be a legal resident of the State of Mississippi for one year prior to application. They must enroll or be enrolled at an approved postsecondary institution in Mississippi in a program of study leading to a first certificate, first associate's degree, or first bachelor's degree. New applicants and some renewal applicants with a break in enrollment will be required to submit two forms of residency documentation. The preferred residency documents are FAFSA and Mississippi driver's license. The alternate residency documents that will be accepted in lieu of the driver's license are: State Tax Return (not Federal) for the current tax filing year; Homestead Exemption; Voter Registration; or MS Road and Bridge Privilege Tax Registration Receipt. Income documentation that must also be submitted are FAFSA and Household Verification Worksheet. For the academic documentation, the high school counselor must certify completion of the HELP Curriculum. The application deadline is March 31 and the deadline for the submission of supporting documents, including certified HELP Core Curriculum, is April 30. Please visit the award's website or contact the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid for more information.
