The IHS Pre-Graduate Scholarship provides financial aid to qualified American Indian and Alaska Native undergraduate students. Recipients must be members or descendants of federally recognized, state-recognized or terminated Tribes enrolled in courses leading to a bachelor's degree in pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-nursing and other subjects needed by the Indian health programs. The scholarship recipient will receive financial support for up to four years of academic work. Members of federally-recognized or state-recognized American Indian Tribes or Alaska Native villages must submit the Form BIA-4432. Descendants of federal or state-recognized Tribal members must submit a copy of their birth certificate; the birth or death certificate of their parent or grandparent who is an enrolled member of the Tribe with which they are establishing descendant status; and evidence of either a parent's or grandparent's Tribal membership in accordance with the scholarship criteria. Applicants must clearly document their relationship to the Tribal member. In addition to submitting the online application form, students must submit their official transcripts and employer or faculty evaluations. Selected applicants in each degree program will be reviewed for a potential award offer. Selected applicants will be notified to submit the following additional documents to complete the selection process within 30 days upon notification: Letter of Acceptance, Documentation of American Indian Tribal or Alaska Native Village Membership, Curriculum for Major or Degree Plan of Study, Declaration of Federal Employment-OMB Form 3206-0162, and Addendum of 306 Form-OMB Form 0917-0028.
