Description

Jean Estes Epstein established the Jean Estes Epstein Foundation upon her death in 2007. Jean had a great interest in education, especially public education in Hawaii. She felt it was very important to support public school students in their efforts to obtain college educations. Jean believed that a student's educational experience would be enriched if the student attended school on the Mainland and was exposed to a diverse student population and new experiences. Jean hoped that the students who attended school on the Mainland would return to Hawaii in order to improve the lives of others in Hawaii. The donor requires that the applicants for the Jean Estes Epstein Charitable Foundation Scholarship be graduates of a public high school in Hawai'i and attend a college or university on the continental United States. They must be an incoming college freshman or an undergraduate student. The applicant's SAT and/or ACT scores must be submitted. Applicants are also required to submit two letters of recommendation. The HCF will give preference for recipients who were awarded in the immediate prior year. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Hawai'i Community Foundation for more information.
