Description

The NACADA Outstanding New Advisor Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students and who have served as a professional advisor for a period of three or fewer years, calculated from time of submission. This award recognizes individuals whose primary role at the institution is the direct delivery of advising services to students. Any individual currently serving as an academic advisor for three or fewer years calculated from the time of submission and is employed by a regionally accredited post-secondary institution may be nominated. Nominees must spend at least 50 percent of their time on direct delivery of advising to students. A Nomination or Application Letter must be submitted. This letter should summarize the nominee's or applicant's qualifications, the extent to which the nominee meets the award criteria and why the individual is being nominated for the award; provide evidence and specific examples that demonstrate excellent performance; focus on qualities and experiences that make the nominee outstanding in their role, highlighting what they've done to go above and beyond normal advising duties; and include any NACADA professional development activities the nominee or applicant has participated in. Three letters of support and/or recommendation must also be submitted. These letters may come from institution officials, colleagues, employees, supervisors, or students, or anyone who might enhance the selection committee's understanding of the nominee.
