Description

In 1993, GFOA's Executive Board voted to create the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship, which was renamed the Clark Burrus Scholarship in 2024 to recognize and encourage outstanding minority students enrolled in a course of study preparing for a career in state or local government finance. The Clark Burrus Public Service Academic Scholarship is available to graduate or upper level undergraduate students. Applicants must be pursuing their studies in public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (with specific focus on government or nonprofit management). There is no employment requirement to apply for this scholarship. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from someone who can speak to their commitment to the public sector. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Government Finance Officers Association for more information.
