Graduate student scholarships: Find free money for grad school

The American Legion Legacy Scholarship is a needs-based scholarship designed to fulfill a financial gap remaining after all federal and state educational grants or scholarships available to an eligible applicant have been utilized. Those who may apply are children of U.S. military members who died while on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001; and children of post-9/11 veterans having been assigned a combined disability rating of 50 percent or greater by the Department of Veterans Affairs also qualify. Each needs-based scholarship provides up to $20,000 for children of the fallen, and up to $5,000 for children of the disabled for undergraduate or post-graduate college. Recipients may reapply for additional annual awards up to six times. The Horton Research Grant is a grant awarded to Ph.D. students studying hydrology, water resources, or a closely related field. The grant is awarded to up to three students each year. It is funded by the Robert E. Horton Fund for Hydrologic Research to promote excellence through encouraging the next generation of professionals in the hydrological sciences. Applicants must be a current AGU student member and enrolled in a doctoral program in hydrology, water resources, or a closely related field such as water resources policy science. An executive summary that includes a dissertation title, problem statement, research objectives, proposed methods, and progress to date must be submitted. A statement that explains to the selection committee why this grant is important to the applicant's dissertation, how it will allow work to be carried out beyond that originally planned, and how it will be budgeted is also required. Individual letters of recommendation in support of the proposal from the applicant's main faculty research supervisor and another member of their thesis committee must also be submitted. The Frank S. Ludovina Memorial Scholarship is available to current and incoming undergraduate, graduate, and credential-class students. Priority consideration is given to students with a migrant background, including students from California Mini-Corps, College Assistant Migrant, and Educational Opportunity programs, and/or students studying to become teachers, social workers, or other professions that support migrant education & health and human services. The Bob Curry Scholarship is for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Environmental Science. This scholarship is available to students involved in the CSUMB Watershed Program. Applicants must file a FAFSA or Dream App.

The Robert M. and Margaret J. Lampert Foundation Scholarship is available to students pursuing their first teaching license. Students must have at least 1 semester remaining before graduation (including student teaching). Applicants must intend to teach in a PK-12 setting and come from Concordia's traditional undergraduate, accelerated undergraduate, or graduate education programs (Lutheran Teaching Diploma candidates excluded). Undergraduates must have 40 or more credits (freshmen are not eligible for the scholarship). Graduates must have been full-time students for at least one semester. The Harold & Olivia Douthit Scholarship is available to continuing and incoming undergraduate and graduate students. Students attending eligible universities are eligible to apply for an award from the GWSCPA Scholarship Fund. For this year, the Scholarship Fund will make several awards ranging from $3,000 for our undergraduate and graduate student awards to $5,000 each for the two special named awards: the Past President's Award and the Sue Marcum Memorial Award. To be eligible for the Past Presidents Award, students must demonstrate qualities and activities which will help them be a future leader within the profession, and for the Sue Marcum Memorial Award, students must demonstrate their commitment to community and volunteer service. The school that the student is attending must be offering an accounting degree that qualifies graduates to sit for the CPA exam. Applicants must be a rising senior or above for undergraduate awards; or may be entering an accounting-related graduate program for a graduate award. Applicants must be an accounting major having passed at least 9 credit hours in accounting. At least one letter of recommendation is required from an accounting professor at the school in which the student is currently enrolled. Applicants must submit a financial need statement that must also indicate the percentage of annual tuition currently covered by financial aid in the form of scholarships and/or loans. For the Past President's Award, demonstration of leadership qualities through resume, recommendation letter or personal essay or additional attachments is required. The Carmel Garden Club Scholarship is open to continuing undergraduate or graduate students working with Native Plants. Applicants must be majoring in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, AGPS, and Scientific Illustration.

The CBC Spouses Education Scholarship was established by the spouses of Congressional Black Caucus members to address the educational need in the congressional districts in response to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships, which disproportionately affect people of color. This opportunity awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated African-American or Black students pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degree in a variety of fields. Applicants must reside or attend an academic institution in a CBC Member's District, current high school seniors are eligible to apply. They must exhibit leadership and be active in the community. Applicants must submit a personal statement, in a video form. Please discuss your academic interests and/or professional goals and how you will make change in your community with your education.
