ARHEG provides financial assistance to students seeking professional training in chiropractic medicine, dentistry, optometry, osteopathic medicine, podiatric medicine, and veterinary medicine to allow them to attend out-of-state institutions. If the school has a direct contract with the ADHE, the contract basically provides that the state will pay to the schools that charge different resident and non-resident tuition an amount equal to the difference between the resident and non-resident tuition, which the school will apply to the tuition and fees of such students. Should the differential exceed the contract price approved for similar programs by the SREB, the lesser amount will be paid. For schools that charge the same amount of annual tuition for residents and non-residents, and such annual tuition is extraordinary as determined by the ADHE, the amount will not be less than $5,000 per student, which the school will apply to the amount of tuition and fees of such students. What are Arkansas scholarships?
Arkansas scholarships are financial awards that help students pay for college, graduate school, or approved workforce and technical training. Scholarships can come from state programs, colleges and universities, local foundations, employers, and nonprofit organizations.
Unlike student loans, scholarship funds do not need to be repaid. While some awards are merit-based, many Arkansas scholarships also consider:
- Financial need (often based on FAFSA® information)
- Arkansas residency or local community ties
- Field of study, career goals, or workforce pathways
- Leadership, service, and extracurricular activities
- Identity-based eligibility criteria
- Academic progress while enrolled
What scholarships are available for Arkansas students?
Most students get the best results when they apply to more than one type of scholarship at the same time—state programs, local and community awards, and institutional scholarships offered by schools.
If you want to expand beyond in-state lists, Scholly Scholarships can help you search and filter scholarships for Arkansas students by major, interests, and eligibility.
Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship (Lottery Scholarship)
The Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship—often called the Arkansas Lottery Scholarship—is a well-known statewide program that may support eligible Arkansas residents pursuing postsecondary education. Eligibility requirements typically involve residency and enrollment criteria, and award rules can vary depending on student status and year in school.
Because renewal and deadlines can be strict, students should review timing and requirements carefully and keep track of key dates.
Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship
The Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship is a competitive Arkansas program that may support high-achieving students, often with strong academic performance and other criteria set by the program. Depending on the rules for a given year, requirements may include test scores, GPA, and enrollment conditions.
If you are considering this scholarship, plan ahead—competitive awards often require early preparation, documentation, and careful attention to the application process.
Arkansas Workforce Challenge Scholarship
The Arkansas Workforce Challenge Scholarship is typically associated with high-demand workforce and technical programs. It may help eligible students pursuing approved certificates or training pathways aligned with state workforce needs.
Program eligibility and approved areas of study can change, so confirm that your program and campus are included before applying.
Local and community scholarships
Local scholarships can be a smart strategy because they often draw from a smaller applicant pool than national awards. In Arkansas, these may be offered by community foundations, civic organizations, employers, unions, and local nonprofits.
Common places to look include community foundation scholarship lists, county organizations, and school-based scholarship postings.
Institutional scholarships from Arkansas colleges
Many Arkansas colleges provide institutional scholarships through admissions and financial aid offices. Students attending institutions such as the University of Arkansas, Arkansas State University, or the University of Arkansas–Pulaski Technical College may qualify for merit-based or need-based awards offered directly by the school.
If you are applying to multiple campuses, compare scholarship timelines—some awards require earlier admission applications or separate scholarship forms.

Arkansas Future Grant (ArFuture)
The Arkansas Future Grant (often referred to as ArFuture) is a state aid program that supports eligible students in approved programs of study. Because it functions more like state financial aid tied to specific pathways, students should review current rules, eligible programs, and renewal requirements.
Need-based and state aid pathways
In addition to scholarships, Arkansas students may qualify for grants and other aid that can reduce tuition costs. Filing the FAFSA® early is often the best way to access need-based support.

Are there eligibility requirements for Arkansas scholarships?
Each program sets its own rules, but many Arkansas scholarships share common eligibility requirements, such as:
- Arkansas residency (for many state and local programs)
- Enrollment or planned enrollment at an eligible college or training program
- Minimum GPA or satisfactory academic progress standards
- FAFSA® completion for need-based consideration (when required)
